What makes a contractor business card look professional?

A contractor business card does not need to explain the whole company. It needs to make the next call easy.

That is where many cards go wrong. They try to list every service, every licence detail, a slogan, a QR code, a photo, five icons, and three phone numbers. The customer keeps the card, then cannot tell what matters.

For most small contractors, the best version is simple: name, trade, service area, phone, email or website, licence number if it matters in that market, and maybe one clean line about the type of work.

I would prioritise:

  • A readable phone number.
  • A trade description that is specific enough to remember.
  • A website or profile link if there are photos, reviews, or insurance details.
  • Licence or insurance wording only if it builds trust.
  • Enough white space that the card does not feel cheap.
  • A good card is not a brochure. It is a reminder: this is the person to call when the job comes up.
